Lesson 8 /14 add to wiki

I added a my blog and a website to the wetwiki but the notes dialog box refused to let me save it. After spending too much time I just gave up.

Lesson 8 / 16 exploring wikis

Well it was too much information to sort through. Some of the wikis are great but I have to admit I use them as a resource not as a collaborative. Wikipedia, wikiquote and howto were my favorites. They can be a very useful collaborative tool but it requires participation which is the hardest thing to to get in this busy world. Wikis could be used to form a regional library wiki or maybe as a favorite book wiki.

Lesson 8 /15 Library 2.0

The future is upon us right now. 23 Things is simply helping us catch up. If most people go to Face book instead of email than that is what works whether we agree or not. It gives me a headache trying to hold on to the rapidly transcending wireless of technology but as a lifelong learner what could be more exciting. I think most librarians love the book format so the challenge will be to follow alternative ways to create access while not leaving our more traditional patrons out in the cold. My advice is "don't be afraid, take one step then another and follow 23 things down the technology yellow brick road".

Lesson 8 / 14 Twitter

I joined Twitter and I understand it a bit better than I did the first time I tried. It is all about phone messages and so it needs to be short and sweet. That is not easy for me. I think it is a good tool for quick reminders and heads-up on happening news. It is just another tool for getting word out.

Lesson 8 / 13 Delicious

I am never going to finish 23 Things if you don't stop making them so interesting. This Delicious was an amazing discovery. I see so much potential for organizing information for myself and the library. I set up an account, did searches and spent hours investigating sites and how other libraries are using Delicious. I also added the VT23things to my network on Delicious. We will certainly add it to our website both for general research and to highlight very specific time sensitive events. We just started a research center with a dedicated computer and microfilm reader. A Delicious button with research sites will be wonderful.

Lesson 7 Library Thing

Well Library Thing has some potential but it will require a lot of work to keep it up for the library. I might be able to focus on just one section in the library and use a link to it on our web site or facebook. We have Library World at our library right now so it duplicates in many ways. Library Thing is more visually appealing and has the social component. I might use it with time.

Lesson 7 Play with image generator

I stayed up way to late with this project. So many possibilities but mostly chaff. Lots to sift through. I did make an avatar on google and that was fun. I posted it to my face book page as my profile picture. I will try out meesh for this also.

Week six catch up

Well as I am doing this late nights this lesson was definitely used as catch up.

Thing on week 6 Social networking

We set up a Face Book page for our library, Bradford Public Library, and it has been a huge success. I have people come into the library in response to posts and get good feedback with comment online. I post new books, programs and we have a donate button for our annual drive.

I think social networking is a tool libraries should be utilizing. It is fun but does take some time.

#8 Week 4 library blog RSS feeds

Added Mashable to my homepage through Technorati and I have Early Word.

Week 4 RSS feeds

Well this is so simple it is complicated. I now have a google reader account and subscribe to ListenUp Vt, Green Mt Consortium, and Library Traveler. On my IGoogle browser I have NPR books, NYT top stories, and weather RSS feeds. Now if I only had time to read them.

Long hot climb this summer with my family.

Week 2 Fun Technology

Banned Books
This is the Animoto link to a banned book video we made with the Animoto program. Neat and simple.

Week 2 Fun Technology

Animoto is a little program I learned at a library program. We used it for posts on our face book.
Try this link. http://animoto.com/play/6TlkzDObCbQ1Y7pz89ZHyw

Week 2 Creating a blog

I am using a blog that I created when I first began this 23 Things. I am thinking this blog will be a bit of a prototype for exploring books at the library. I'll use Nose Around to explore the possibilities before I finalize.

Week 1 Lifelong learning

Light little tutorial. It seems to me that librarians by their very nature are lifelong learners. We are a curious bunch and following curiosity is learning. The contract with yourself to learn is a good exercise. I find that the hardest thing of the 7 and 1/2 techniques is "Knowing your goal". I use goals as stepping stones to some far off but unknowable island. However I find the pull of learning irresistible and love to develop a varied toolbox. Each tool in the toolbox is little bits of knowledge.
